Hilda Solis Visits Pima One Stop
On February 16, 2010 U.S. Labor Secretary Hilda Solis visited the Pima County One Stop to explain “green” job development, job training grants for vetrans and the effectiveness Pima County’s career center has had in using stimulus funds.
The Department of Labor has invested more than $72 million in Arizona since the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act was signed by President Obama last year, Solis said. Of that more than $17 million went into a workforce investment act that provides a safety net for unemployed and underemployed workers, she said.
Solis spoke outside Pima County’s One Stop career center in a discussion hosted by Congressman Raúl Grijalva, a Tucson Democrat.
“Often times people believe that for some reason the federal government is creating jobs,” she said. “We’re not creating jobs, we’re creating the incentive for small businesses and medium-sized businesses to create those jobs. All we do is help to provide assistance and training and technical support.”
